Fishing, skiing, and snowboarding, all enjoyed on business or leisure with a side of moose. Ontario, Canada is a splendid place to enjoy a family vacation, or get away from it all. In 1900, this humble location boasted a population on two million strong, but of course, not all things in this earth can last. Ford Motors, silver veins, and the beautiful Niagara Falls turned this place upside down. 1903 saw the foundation of the Ford Motor Company and the establishment of a factory in Windsor. This was a very eventful year, as it was also the year Fred LaRose accidentally discovered the richest vein of silver the world has ever seen. Of course this folly was born of trying to kill a fox with a hammer. Yes, it is a rich place with an even richer history. And today there is no difference. Still booming, still amazing, Ontario is a hot destination for tourists.

The history of Ontario did not begin in the 1900’s, as with any location, it had been around for a while. Human civilizations date back to as far as 7,000 years. Many very distinguished tribes made it their home, including the Mohawk, and Cree. The actual name, Ontario, is derived from the Iroquois language, and is most closely translated to “beautiful or “sparkling” referring to water or a lake. Fast-forwarding to 1610, the first Europeans landed in Ontario by boat. Europeans have always been credited for drastically changing any land they stepped foot in, and with this change comes war and bloodshed. In 1812, the United States was so enraged with the British, that they declared a war and invaded Upper Canada. They did not succeed, but they next year they showed their true colors and burned down Legislative Buildings in Toronto. This war ended in a draw with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent soon after.

Nowadays, things are peaceful in this green and white land. It is fun for any occasion, year-round, and all regions have something different to offer. One can soak their sense, and themselves, standing on the decks and viewing the breath-taking Niagara Falls. This is a nice place to enjoy a honeymoon. Delectable, world-class wines can be sampled as one enjoys a nice massage and relaxes. On the other side of the coin, there is much excitement, and fast-paces activities to be enjoyed. Naturally, when one thinks Canada, they think snow. Ski, board, or simply roll your way down its many sparkling slopes. The aboriginals that remain today will be happy to give a tour of their sacred lands and immerse tourists into their fascinating culture.

So the next time you plan on taking a vacation, keep Ontario on your mind. The moose will not charge you, hopefully. Sit back and relax, be drenched by one of the wonders of the world, or shred up the icy slopes. Whatever your cup of tea is, Ontario has a wide variety to offer. It is a close destination to the United States, and it is simply the trip of a lifetime.
